This September, the Chatham Area Public Library will host a presentation into Mexico’s ancient Aztec culture of music, song, and dance. All are invited to a dynamic and vibrant performance honoring the heritage of the tradition of La Danza De Los Concheros.
This presentation, “Aztec Dance - Xochitl Quetzal: Mexico’s Ancient Culture and Living Tradition” will take place on Saturday, September 18 at the Chatham Area Public Library in Chatham, IL at 1:00 p.m. Join Henry Cervantes as he leads us on an exploration of the Aztec world of indigenous ceremony and ritual.
The event is co-produced by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, which invites Illinois authors, artists, and educators to share their expertise and enthusiasm with people throughout the state, enabling local nonprofit organizations to present free-admission cultural programs to their communities.
Henry Cervantes is a Chicago artist and educator and is the founder and director of Xochitl-Quetzal Aztec Dance. Cervantes serves as Manager for The Peace Exchange, an organization that engages youth in leadership training and international travel to study nonviolent social movements. For his work for peace and social change Cervantes is one of 40 Human Rights Defenders featured in the Take A Stand Center at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
“Aztec Dance - Xochitl Quetzal: Mexico’s Ancient Culture and Living Tradition” will take place on Saturday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chatham Area Public Library.
